5 More Money-Making Activities Coaches, Consultants, and Service-Business Owners Should Be Doing

How did you do with those goals you set for your business at the beginning of the quarter?

If you crushed them – high five!

If you’re not where you wanted to be, ask yourself why?

  • Is it because you were sitting on the beach sipping cocktails all year instead of working? Not likely.
  • Is it because you didn’t have a clear plan? Possibly.
  • Is it because you were pulled in too many different directions? Probably.

If you’re not where you wanted to be, you’re not alone.

According to research, only 8% of people reach the goals they set at the beginning of the year.

I bet you were busy and hustled hard.

You woke up each morning ready to tackle your to-do lists.

You got a great start on several big projects for your business and finished one or two.

I’m sure you did your best to keep all the plates spinning, take amazing care of your clients, and be there for your family.

The average entrepreneur spends 68.1% of the time working “in” their business—tackling day-to-day tasks, putting out fires, etc.—and only 31.9% of the time working “on” their business—i.e. long-term goals, strategic planning—according to new research from The Alternative Board (TAB).

Focusing on the Wrong Activities Can Be More Harmful to Your Business Than Inactivity.

As I mentioned in last week’s blog post, sleeping is my #1 money-making activity. Taking time to unwind allows me to be more productive, make better decisions, and achieve my goals.

Trying to “do it all” will clutter your head, make you feel “busy” and stall your progress. After enough time it’s easy to become discouraged and overwhelmed.

Take a look back at what you’ve done in the last week. What type of activities did you spend more time on?

  • Managing your business including administrative tasks and putting out fires
  • Money-making activities like sales, marketing, strategic planning, and product development

Money-making activities are an investment in yourself and your business that will grow your business, lists, and revenue.

Five Money-Making Activities That Pay Off Big-Time!

1. Grow Your Email List

Your email list is an asset you own. Your social media followers are not yours. They belong to Facebook, YouTube, etc. You’re at the mercy of each channel’s algorithm to get your content in front of your followers.

If you have a large email list, you have the ability to create sales on demand. Statistics say that email converts better than social media by about 40 times.

Growing an email list is an activity that can directly increase revenue as well as improve other areas of your business such as:

  • Driving traffic back to your site to promote a new piece of content or a new product
  • Identifying what your audience needs
  • Converting more website visitors into paying clients
  • Staying in touch with people who are interested in your services
  • Building a relationship with your audience

Spending time creating or optimizing your lead generation funnel is a great money-making activity.

2. Nurture Your Email List

Many people work hard to get people on their list and then rarely email them. Neglecting your list will cause it to wither and die on the vine.

The goal of your email list is to develop the relationship your leads have with you so they get to know you, like you, and trust you enough to buy from you. Tend to your subscribers. Create valuable content for them and email them consistently.

How frequently should you email your list? I recommend at least weekly or as frequently as you can provide value on a consistent basis. If that feels like a lot, take a moment to think about how close you are to the people you talk to once a month compared to the people in your life to talk to every day.

3. Nurture Your Clients

Happy clients and raving fans are the best marketing resource you can have. Provide excellent customer service. Go beyond underpromise and over-deliver. Show them they are important to you by your actions, not words.

My goal is to make my clients so ridiculously happy with my work that they can’t help but tell their friends about it. This approach has paid off for me with more awesome referrals and recommendations than I can count. Keeping happy clients happy is an amazing money-making activity!

4. Streamline Your Processes

Streamlining your processes for client onboarding, managing projects, and delivering results for your clients are awesome money-making activities. They pay off in time saved and allow you to increase the number of people you can help and the amount of money you can earn. Take a look at everything you’re doing and figure out where you can delegate, automate or eliminate steps in your manual processes. If you’re not sure what to automate first, pick the areas of your business that are stressful and start there.

Here’s a post on the 4 Automations every business needs to be using if you’re interested in learning more.

5. Create New or Better Offers for New Clients and Existing Clients

Pay attention and become aware of the problems your audience is experiencing so you can create new products or services to solve those problems.

For example, many of the people I talked to on discovery calls weren’t ready for a custom website or marketing funnel. I developed the Get Leads & Clients Masterclass to show them how to build a website and a marketing funnel without technical overwhelm! (A must-watch training for the business owner on a budget!)
