Thank You!
A lot of you have picked up The 5-Minute Marketing Planner, and I’m gonna say thank you so much for your purchase. I’m so excited that you got the planner.
But a lot of you are asking, “Where do I start?” And, in the planner, we’ve got a Marketing Clarity” section to help you get clear on who you are working with (your ideal clients), what your offers are, what your messaging is, what your goals are, and all of that great stuff. So I definitely recommend that you start there.
The Big 3
But, when you’re ready to start creating content, I want you to focus on one of three types of content:
- Blogging: It’s just written content, which is nice because it’s low-tech and easy to do,
- Video: It’s awesome because it creates rapport with people. (I will talk to you about repurposing that in just a second.)
- Audio: This could be a podcast or something along those lines.
The reason I pick these three types of content to create is that they have a longer shelf life than something on social media, or something that you email out.
When you share something on social media, if people aren’t watching their newsfeed at the time you share it, chances are it’s gonna get buried and they’re not gonna know it’s there. That means you’re not gonna get much more out of that piece of content. While you do have a chance of something going viral, let’s be honest with ourselves—it’s pretty unlikely that every piece of content that you share is gonna go viral.
But, if you’re creating blog content, or video content, or a podcast, that has a longer duration of living online. I have four-year-old blog posts that still drive a tremendous amount of traffic to my website. It was something that probably took me an hour or so to create, and it’s been bringing me traffic for years. Leveraging blog articles, videos, and podcasts are an awesome strategy. If you are ready to start creating content, I strongly recommend you use them.
My Favorite for Creating Content is…
My favorite of the three is video. I love video because it is the easiest type of content that you can create. When I originally created this particular piece of content, I started with a video. Then, I uploaded it to Rev.com (there are other options out there as well). Rev turned the video into a transcript. That transcript has been cleaned up and transformed into this blog post. I will also be turning it into a social media post and send it out through email. If I had a podcast, I could strip the audio from the video and use it there.
So, video is not only easy to create, but also incredibly versatile. You can create so many other forms of content if you start there.
As you up your game and get a little more comfortable with creating content, I encourage you to consider doing video or audio. Personally, I admit I’m not comfortable in video. I’ve always resisted it. But, when it comes to practicality, it’s awesome. And, it’s wonderful for building a connection with my audience.
So, here I am setting my insecurities aside, and hopping on a video to teach. It just makes sense. It’s more efficient for me, and I think it’s more effective for you because it opens the door for me to appeal to those who like to watch, listen, or read, depending on the various types of content I decide to create from it.
