Today, I want to show you my five-minute routine that I talk about in my 5-Minute Marketing Planner and our Monthly Marketing Planning Parties. If you haven’t registered for them yet, you’ve got to check it out. But in the meantime, I’m going to walk you through what the five-minute routine is.
Once you’ve identified who your ideal client is, you’re clear on what you’re offering, you’ve set your goals, and you know what you’re doing, then you’ll be ready to use this five-minute routine and implement it.
5-Minute Marketing Routine Step 1:
What’s Your Intention for the Day?
I start the day off by really thinking about my intention for the day. At the end of the day, what could you do that you can look back on this day and think, “Man, that was a great day, I really did a good job. I showed up for myself, I showed up for my clients. I took action, and I had time for fun. It was easy,” Whatever that might be, whatever intention I’m needing for that day, go ahead and set that.
5-Minute Marketing Routine Step 2:
What are Your Goals?
The next thing I do is look at my business goals and jot down my top three. Then, I jot down my top three personal goals.
Now, you may be writing the same thing every single day because you’re focused on these goals. This is what’s in front of you, and you’re going through this on a regular basis. It might be doing it in your journal morning and night, or maybe doing it in the planner in the morning.
Writing these goals daily might seem a little redundant, but it will help you stay focused on what you want to achieve and keeps you from “pinging like a BB in a tin can from one thing to the next” (like my dad used to say when I was little). In other words, it keeps you focused.
Now, once you’ve set your business goals, take a minute and sit with them. Imagine what it’s going to be like when you have achieved them. How is that going to feel?
5-Minute Marketing Routine Step 3:
What are Your Business Priorities?
Then I write down my business priorities. What are three things can you do in your business to help you get closer to those goals? And don’t just write down easy things. Write down things that are a stretch. Stretch your comfort zone. Make it a challenge. That stretch might include doing some outreach and getting in front of somebody new that might be a little scary, or something like that.
What are Your Personal Priorities?
I then do the same thing with my personal priorities. Set three. Don’t make a big long list of 20 things to do today. Make a list of just three things to focus on. For example, I think it’s really important that we focus on our water and our health. And so there’s room for you to track that in the daily planner.
5-Minute Marketing Routine Step 4:
Plan Your Social Media Activity
There’s also room for you to track your social channels. So maybe you want to engage in your social media group on Facebook a certain number of days a week, or maybe you want to get out there on LinkedIn a certain number of days a week, you can check those activities off in the planner.
5-Minute Marketing Routine Step 5:
Keep Track of Time
And then the whole bottom section of the planner is for your daily agenda. When you first start using the planner, instead of writing down your appointments, I encourage you to use that as a time tracker. Keep track of what you’re doing every 15 minutes in your business. Are you in email? Did you just get down on the black hole of Facebook again, or Instagram, where you’re scrolling through your newsfeed? Were you on a client call? Was that an income-producing activity? Were you working on automations or making an investment somehow in your business that’s going to simplify your life in the future?
Write down everything you’re doing. And if you do that for a few days, you’re going see where you’re wasting time, where the gaps are, and where you could be more efficient.
Make This Process Your Own
But that’s it; that’s the recap of my five-minute marketing routine. This is your business, life, planner, and everything, so make it yours. Rework this so that it works well for you.
But I wanted to be sure to share that with you so that when you are getting into the 5-Minute Marketing Planner and you start taking action and you’re ready, you can do this.
And, even if you don’t have a marketing planner, this routine can serve you.
If you’re just using a notebook, take some time to set your intention, review your goals, and write them out again.
- Think about what that might be like to achieve those goals.
- Reflect on how you are going to feel when you’ve accomplished them?
- Write down the priorities that you can do in order to help you get there.
- Keep track of your health, take breaks, stretch your back, sit up straight, get a drink of water, whatever you need to do to take care of you.
- And track your time so that you can see where you might be wasting time, where you might be procrastinating, and identify what you can do differently in order to show up more efficiently so that you have more time for fun.
