If you don’t already know, “batching content” means focusing on a certain type of work all at once. Today, while I was batching some content, I realized this would be a great thing to talk with you about today.
When I’m working on content, automations, or something else, I love to batch my content because it helps me be more efficient. For example, when I’m doing videos I want to look nice. If I do a video every day, that means I have to put on makeup and dress up every day for you all who are watching.
Here’s How Batching Content Works and Saves Time:
For me, getting ready like that takes time. When I do a bunch of videos together, I only have to do my makeup once, not every single morning. I can block in time to do my hair. (I know all this talk of makeup and hair may sound silly to you guys, but for many of us girls it’s important.) I only have to dress up on the day of the recordings. In the beginning, I often wondered, “Should I be changing my clothes and making it look like I’m doing different videos on different days?” I finally decided that was silly and chose not to do it.
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy getting ready for you all. But, the preparation takes time. On top of personal appearance, there is making sure that the space is presentable, audible distractions are muted, and making sure others in the house are aware of what I’m doing so they can be respectful. If I do videos only once during the week, I cut the time spent on all that down to 20% of what it could have been.
Schedule Time for Batching Content
I schedule pockets of time to batch content and projects, whatever it is I’m working on. If I’m working on things related to my marketing, whether it’s writing a sales letter, or building out my funnels, or creating my emails, or something like that, I block off some time and I batch that content. I do it all at once.
On days I don’t have client calls, I can be in my cozy clothes and go without makeup. But when I want to show up for you all, it’s an opportunity for me to get ready, to present to you, to teach, and really get out in front of my audience,
I do the same thing with these videos. For the “Marketing Minis” that you’ve been receiving, I will go ahead and record a bunch of them at one time. There have been times where I’ve recorded 25 of them in a day because they’re short. They’re three to five minutes, and I can sit here and teach, and as long as I’ve mapped out what I’m doing, I can be really efficient. It helps me save time and still get in front of my audience on a consistent basis.
If It Makes Your Day Easier and More Productive, Do It
So that’s my tip for you today. Take a look at the things that you’re doing. Identify the things that are similar, whether it’s your marketing, management-type stuff, getting caught up on invoicing and bookkeeping, discovery calls, or whatever. Block all those similar things in the same batch so you can work on them all at once. It’s amazing how this simple technique can completely change the flow of your day and make you so much more productive.
