How to Make a Website That Gets 2 to 5 Times More Leads and Clients

There’s a method to the madness, and I’m laying it out for you right now.

What you are about to encounter is the three-phase process that we use to build websites that attract, engage, and convert two to five times more visitors into leads. You can use this process whether you are DIYing a website or working with us as a custom client. When you work with us, this is the exact process that we will walk through together to build your site.

Here’s the quick walkthrough:

  1. We start with the content for your website and marketing funnel.
  2. Next, we create your marketing assets, do your branding, and design your website.
  3. Then we move onto marketing that draws people to your site so that it can do its job.

Are you ready? Here we go!

Phase 1: Content

Step 1: Client Journey & Site Map

The content phase is really the foundation of everything. During the discovery process, we get really, really clear on the following:

  • Who are your clients?
  • What are the problems that you can help them solve?
  • What are your packages?
  • What are their goals?
  • What are your goals?

We want to make sure that your website’s content focuses on the things that are going to convert. Your content needs to speak to your potential clients in a way that makes them feel like you’re reading their minds like you know their problems better than they do, and therefore also have the solutions that they’re looking for. We do this during the discovery phase.

Once we have that, we map out the journey that we’ll take your ideal clients on. It could be them seeing a piece of your content on social media, clicking through to your website, opting in for your lead magnet, encountering a thank you page, and receiving a follow-up email sequence. Or, it could be something else. Whatever that is, we want to map out that journey, and we want to create your site map so that all the pages on your site are focused and clear as you tell your story. The goal is to generate excitement around your services and your products, as well as answer any questions that they may be thinking (or not even aware that they’re thinking).

Step 2: Create Website Content

With our map in front of us, we’re ready to create the actual content. If you have an existing website, we can see if the content you already have has everything it needs or can be repurposed. If you don’t have a website yet, we’ll create an inventory of the content you need.

Do you want to write your own content? If so, we have writing prompts and guides to help you. This is the perfect approach if you love to write and want to save a bit of money. Or, if you prefer to have it done for you, we would be glad to play matchmaker with one of several amazing copywriters.

Step 3: Write Email Sequences

You will also need content for your email sequences. Email sequences are important because most people who visit your website are unfortunately not yet ready to buy. So we want to give them something to help them experience a quick win and get a taste of what working with you will be like. That taste might be a cheat sheet, checklist, training guide, or something else that’s easy to digest.

Opting into this freebie signs them up for nurture emails. These emails provide value and build goodwill so you build rapport with them and move them to the next step of your funnel. This could be to book an appointment for a strategy session, download a product, join a challenge that you’re doing, or subscribe to a webinar.

Phase 2: Design

Step 4: Finalize Logo & Branding

Now, it’s time for the design phase. This is where we look at your logo, brand colors, and imagery that you’re using. Do you need new brand pictures taken? Do you need taglines? What is it that you need in order to create a cohesive brand? This is where we sort all of this out. Our goal during this phase is to create a look that evokes the feeling you want people to have when they land on any of your platforms, whether that be your site, Facebook page, Instagram page, or another site.

Your business is unique to you, and your design needs to reflect that. Maybe you need something that’s polished and professional and really sleek. Or maybe warm and a bit more casual better fits you, kind of like good friends hanging out. Whatever it is, we want to get super clear on who that vision is that you’re creating for your brand and the personality it will project. This projected personality will be the recipe we use through the rest of the design process.

Step 5: Design Marketing Assets

With your brand’s personality established, we then move on to marketing assets. So do we need videos for your thank you pages in your marketing funnel? Do we need a lead magnet design? Do we need to create any downloadables or PDFs or a signature system like this?

Step 6: Develop Website & Funnel

Once everything is conceived and mapped out, it’s time to actually build your website and marketing funnel. This is where we build the pages of your site, build your email nurture sequence, add in your calendar, add in your opt-in forms—all the things you need in order to create a website that converts.

If you’ve been a subscriber of mine for any length of time, I’m sure you’ve heard me say, “Pretty is the easy part when it comes to design.” My personal focus here is giving you not just a gorgeous site that you’re proud to promote, but also a site that reaches your goals, converts for you, gets you leads, and ultimately moves potential clients through the buying phases to becoming actual paying clients.

Once this is done, we will schedule a reveal and revisions call where we walk you through every page of the site to make sure that we’ve done all the things we needed to do. I want you to be in love with everything. Anything that you need to change we can take care of at that time, so that when it goes live you are just tickled pink and can’t wait to promote it. That is my goal. I want you to be really dying to get it out there in front of people.

Phase 3: Market

Step 7: Generate Traffic

Just having a site live isn’t enough. You need to market it. We usually implement two different traffic strategies: a paid strategy and an organic strategy. The paid strategy would focus on using Facebook ads to send people to your freebie lead magnet to get people on your email list. I like using paid ads because it gives us the chance to get some traffic into the funnel to see how it’s behaving and then optimize it.

The second way focuses on getting people to your website organically. This could be blogging, a newsletter, a video channel, a podcast, or even regular posts on Instagram. Whatever it is you like to do in order to send people to your website organically.

Step 8: Optimize Conversion

How do we optimize? Well, for example, let’s say you’re getting a ton of people opting in, but nobody is booking an appointment. At that point, we might take a look at your funnel and say, “All right, the lead magnet is working okay and the opt-in form landing page is working okay, but people aren’t booking an appointment. So let’s take a look at the thank you page. Let’s take a look at the video there. Let’s take a look at your offer for a strategy session or discovery call. What is it that you’re promoting there? Can we tweak that in order to get better conversion on that?” When optimizing, we are essentially looking for the weak link in your marketing chain and reinforcing it.

Step 9: Website/Marketing Support

Once your site is optimized for conversion and things are good, we then move into website and marketing support. We can continue to take care of your website for you. You will need backups and security scans. You will need someone to make sure that your plugins, theme, and all your core files are updated regularly. You want your database continually optimized so you’re website is running quickly and efficiently.

We also offer marketing support to save you time and energy. We can schedule and promote blog posts for you. We can also set up your newsletters. Whatever it is that you need help with, we’re here for you. Okay, we can’t cook for you, but anything you need help with related to your website, we have marketing support packages to help with those.

Wrapping Up

I recommend you use this process as your roadmap. Start with getting really clear on content. Then, design your brand, your marketing assets, and your funnel. Finally, get people to your site so that you can optimize and grow your business. Whether you are a DIYer or a custom client, this process can work for you.

I hope this was super helpful to you. In the future, I’ll dive deeper into each step and give you more information. But this is the big picture. If you have any questions, please pop them into the comments below. I would love to hear from you.
