You have your free lead magnet up. You have visitors coming to your website. You have those visitors downloading their free PDF and giving you their email address.

Congratulations!

But now what?

It’s Time for Conversion After Opt-In

When people land on your homepage, your primary conversion goal is probably to get them to opt into your email list. That’s why you had the free lead magnet dangling in front of them in the first place. That ends this stage of your sales funnel.

But, where one stage of the funnel ends, the next one begins. So now, the question is: “what is your next call to action going to be?”

Today I want to offer a couple of options for you to increase your conversion rate after they’ve opted into your email.

A Welcome Page

This is a fantastic opportunity to convert visitors after they opt in. Once someone enters their email address and clicks that submit button, send them over to a welcome page. Here’s your chance to really personalize your business.

When it comes to connecting with potential clients, video is second only to an in-person conversation. Make a short welcome video and introduce yourself and your services. End it with a pitch for a low priced offer. Maybe it’s an opportunity to get that PDF that you normally sell for $27 for just $7.

Do you see what’s happening here? You gave them a free PDF. Now you’re giving them the option to give you money. Now, your free lead magnet is actually generating revenue right out of the gate.

And it gets better. Once people have given you money, they feel a lot more comfortable giving you more money in the future. That means when you present your products to them later, they are more likely to convert then if they hadn’t purchased your low price to offer.

A Welcome Email Sequence

Hopefully you will be sending regular emails to your subscribers. Most common form of email is probably the weekly blog post. It’s a great way for you to show your subscribers again and again how you can help them to overcome obstacles and reach their goals.

But I want you to think beyond that. I want you to see that initial opt in as a unique opportunity. Remember, they just signed up, which means they are still excited about what you’re doing. Take advantage of that excitement.

I recommend a special welcome sequence of about five emails. All of these emails should go together like a chain of paper clips. The first email leads into the second, the second into the third, and so on.

Follow a specific psychological path as you write them. Since people make decisions emotionally and then justify them rationally, write your emails in that order.

Start with Emotional Appeal

Use the first two emails to trigger reader emotions. If video is second only to in-person conversation when it comes to connecting with clients, stories are the next on the list. Tell stories about how you have helped past clients in ways they never thought possible. Help your potential clients experience what the outcome of working with you would be like.

Give them Fuel to Make the Decision

Spend the next couple of emails laying out reasons that they should work with you. Here you want to give them all the information they need to justify spending money on your products and services.

Nudge Them and Help Them Feel Secure

And in that last email you want to push them over the edge. Present them with a one-time offer. Give them a deadline. Don’t be afraid to trigger that fear of missing out. And if you are offering a guarantee, make that clear. Give them a sense that they need to act now if they want to take advantage of the offer, and then offer them a sense of security and knowing that if things go awry you will take care of them.

But Wait, There’s More…

“Where one stage of the funnel ends, the next one begins.” That’s what I said earlier. It may be the most important line in this whole article. Conversion after opt in is actually part of the continual process of marketing itself. Once you attain a wider perspective of what a successful marketing system entails, that all makes sense.

I want you to have that bigger picture. I recommend you check out Heathers Get Leads & Clients Masterclass for free right here. After all, knowledge is power. And knowledge of how marketing works is the power you need to take your business to the next level.
