“But, I Hate Facebook”

I get that. Facebook can be soooo tiring, frustrating, and time-consuming.

However, for better or worse, if you have a small business and you want to attract your ideal client, I still strongly recommend you start learning how to use Facebook as a marketing tool

“Why?” you may ask, especially after my opening line.

The answer is simple: Because I’m lazy and I want to spend as little effort as possible while getting great results.

Yes, I’m “that” guy. I’m a “Minimum Effort/Maximum Gain” guy.

That means that Facebook is my friend. Let’s look at why.

1. You need to set up your shop where the people are. When you’re marketing to an audience, it’s important to get in front of the audience. And when you’re online, that means the social media platforms they hang out on.

I realize Facebook is not the only social-media platform, and to be honest you might find other options better for you depending on your niche. For example, you might find Instagram a better match if you are an artist, since that platform focuses on images, and people there want to see images.

So, let’s look at some other reasons to focus on Facebook.

2. The price of ads is really cheap compared with other advertising options. This is not just about the actual price of the ads. This is also about what you can get out of an ad.

Facebook’s algorithm is built to help you connect with the right people. When you set up an ad, you can tell Facebook what qualities to look for. If you are marketing to small-business owners, you don’t want to show your ad to non-small-business owners who are not interested in your niche. That’s simply wasting money.

Facebook allows you to drill down as precisely as you want when selecting the audience for your ad. When you market your business on Facebook ads, you simply get a lot more bang for your buck.

3. You can retarget your audience, thanks to the Facebook pixel. In case you don’t remember, more than 90% of people who land on your website are not going to be ready to buy from you. That means that most of the people who go to your website through Facebook will not be ready to take the next step…yet.

Emphasis on “yet”. They may simply need more time. While they take their time, you can take advantage of retargeting them. This is how that works…

When someone lands on your website, you can have your website place a Facebook pixel on their browser. When they go back to Facebook, it sees that pixel and knows this is someone who was interested enough in what you had to say earlier that they actually went so far as to go to your website

You can set up “retargeting ads” so that Facebook shows certain ads very specifically to this group of people. So, while they are still deciding, Facebook can keep showing them follow-up ads that you can create with special messaging just for them to keep your name and offers in front of them.

4. You don’t have to spend a ton of time on content if you use the scheduler. One of the reasons people don’t like to use Facebook for their businesses is that they don’t want to spend a lot of time creating posts. I totally understand that, but there is a nice little workaround.

You can simply use the scheduler. This allows you to create a bunch of content in advance and schedule it all to post at a specific date and time. This allows you to plan out your content well in advance, and you can even do a month’s worth at once if you want to. Imagine having your entire social-media calendar for the month done in a couple of hours. Sure, you may have to write some content later, but the hard part is really figuring out what to post and when.

When you use the scheduler, the effort involved is like shifting from conceiving of and creating an original work of art to paint-by-numbers. It makes social-media marketing soooo much easier.

So, even if you hate Facebook, I encourage you to start using it for your business. It can help you in a lot of ways, and it doesn’t have to be the colossal time and energy sink that people think it is.
