Today’s kicks off the first week of Summer for the kids in the Stephens household and we’re setting summer goals and creating a plan for the 79 days we have left until school starts.
The best thing about being in business for yourself is the freedom to choose our own adventures. We can set our own goals, choose who we work with, when we want to work, and what we want to do, for the most part. Unfortunately, many of business owners get busy with the kids home for the summer, lose focus, and end up scrambling come fall because their business has stalled, their income has stalled, and they’re starting from scratch.
Lazy summer days are a must once in a while, but summer is going to pass whether we’re making progress or standing still. Wouldn’t you rather end up at the end of summer ready to harvest the rewards of your progress instead of scrambling to figure out how to pick up the momentum again?
Stop and take a moment to set your summer goals so you can have time to play & still get paid!
- What does success to you look like? Think about your 3-5 year plan.
- What do you need in order to live the life you desire? I want you to reverse engineer that goal back to today. How much money do you need to make in order to live that lifestyle? At your current prices and conversion rate, how many customers do you need to earn that income?
Create a vision for that goal and now look at what you need to do in the next 3 months to move your business in that direction. Then break that 3-month goal down to what you need to do in the next 30 days. Set aside time each day you’ve scheduled to work, to tackle those projects. It’s too easy to get busy working on things that aren’t going to get you to that goal.
There is a process to building a successful business, and you can’t start with the roof!
You have to start at the foundation – your marketing funnel! Use these foundational items to help you plan your summer goals:
- If you don’t have a viable product or service to sell, you don’t have a business.
- If you don’t have a professional website with copy and images that speak to your audience, you will struggle to get clients.
- If you don’t have an email list and a lead magnet, you have no reason to generate traffic from Facebook or blogging.
- If you don’t have a nurture email sequence to build a relationship with your subscribers, you may not pass go and cannot collect $200.

35 Tips to Optimize Your Email Open Rates
Your business will likely fall into one of four stages:
- Building your funnel & digital marketing foundation (website, lead magnet, email sequence, packages & marketing funnel)
- Generating traffic to your funnel (social media, blogging, webinars, etc.)
- Optimizing and increasing conversion (fine-tuning your traffic generation and marketing funnel.)
- Building systems to leverage and scale (marketing automation, hiring help, etc.)
Your Mission Today:
- Decide where you are in the stages above and choose one goal to focus on in the next 30 days. Don’t create a list of things, pick one thing that you are going to focus on first- No Matter What! What does your website or your business need next?
- Make sure this goal is going to help you reach your larger business goals for the year. Also, make sure it is something you can commit to! I want you to stretch yourself, but not overwhelm yourself so you burn out and quit.
- Write your goal down where you will see it daily! Create an affirmation around it and say it to yourself several times per day!
