Ways to Make Money with Emails

Emails are Gold

When it comes to marketing your business, I don’t think anything brings as much power to the table as emails.

Here’s the thing about emails, though: If you’re not using them right, they won’t work. Too many people try to use emails only to promote their products and services to an audience. What they don’t realize is that they need to do some groundwork first.

That groundwork is the work of relationship building. You want to use your emails to connect with your audience in a way that your voice adds value to their endeavor. The more they experience value, the more likely they are to trust you and believe in you when you actually do try to sell them something.

So, the primary purpose of an email campaign is to build up a relationship with your audience so that they get to know you, like you, and trust you.

Once you have established that…

Let’s look at what you can do to actively generate income from your emails.

Give Links to Freebies

Okay, I realize that “free” does not equal “income”. But I want you to think beyond the initial offer. To make money with emails you don’t have to have money-making offers in the emails themselves. What if you were to give them a free downloadable that had an offer embedded in it

For example, let’s say that you sell pet supplies. You could create a short PDF that teaches some basic leash-walking skills. When people get to the relevant parts, you could have quick links that take them to your storefront for things like leashes, harnesses, water bowls, boots for dog feet, etc. And at the end of the PDF you could have a little section that says, “here are all the supplies you will need for a fantastic dog walk”. Again, you are directing them to your online store to make their purchases.

What you’re doing with your PDF is creating a narrative around the products that you want to sell that highlights the value of those products just before you offer them.

If you only sell services and not products, no problem. Just use the last portion of your PDF to highlight whatever offer it is you have for them. Otherwise, it’s the same thing.

Promote New Products or Services

Anytime you have something new to offer, promote it to your audience. You can just do a new release announcement. Remember, your audience has already been warmed up and many of them may be ready to buy already. They just need to know that there’s something new on the table.

Or, instead of a simple “new offer” announcement, you could do something like I mentioned before with the free pdf. You could create an email that creates a narrative around the product you want to sell. It’s going to be a longer email that highlights the value of your new offer just before you reveal it to them. So, rather than a leash-walking skills PDF, you could do a shorter version in email form.

Special Subscriber Offers

This is probably my favorite. People on your list have chosen to opt-in. Reward them regularly for making this decision.

The best opportunities I know of here are through PDFs and ebooks. If you have PDFs and ebooks that you sell, your email list just became a great opportunity for extra revenue.

Let’s say that you sell a PDF for $19.99, which is what you list it for on your website. But, then you send out an announcement that you are giving a limited-time sale to pick up that ebook for only $7.00. that’s a little over a third of the regular price (limited time only, of course).

Are you going to make less on it than if they bought it from your website? Absolutely. But this is a way to say thank you to them.

Will you make sales? Odds are very good you will. And let’s face it, it’s a simple digital product. That means that it will take little to no time and energy on your part to get this quick financial boost. This is the poster child of “minimum effort, maximum gain”.

Early-Bird Specials

If you have a big offer coming up, I recommend a special offer just for your email list. This is a reward for them because they chose to opt-in. Whatever early-bird special you may offer everyone else, make it especially good for the people on your list.

P.S.

Underneath your signature, you can put a plug for anything that’s relevant to your audience. Maybe it’s, “P.S.: Don’t forget, we have this easy product for you here. Or it might be, “P.S.: When you’re ready to hear about how we can help you, just contact us through this link here.”

So, there you go, five ways you can start using your email campaigns to generate revenue.

I want to emphasize, though, that this will not work if you don’t focus on using your emails to build relationships first. It is that relationship that opens the door for your audience to be willing to buy anything from you.

Use Your Website to Build Your Email List

Of course, you have to have a strong list to make money with emails. That’s where your website needs to do its job. If it doesn’t, you’ll end up with “less-than-stellar” email potential.
