Summary

If you are exhausted by marketing advice that does not fit who you are, the problem is not your discipline or your strategy. You are trying to do it someone else's way.

The "Choose This Over That" framework is a personal practice for coaches and service providers who want to market in a way that is aligned, sustainable, and genuinely theirs. It is built around three ideas:

  • Trust yourself first. Be intuitive rather than impulsive. Know your people instead of chasing trends. Come from "I have something worth sharing" rather than "I need a sale."

  • Build trust with others. Connection matters more than conversion. Your experience is enough. Someone else's success in your niche is proof there is a market, not proof you are behind.

  • Protect your peace. Notice where your marketing flows and where it grinds. Choose flow. Alignment over algorithms. Presence over performance. Quality over quantity. Balance over burnout.

The goal is not to market less. It is to market in a way you can actually keep doing, because the content you create from that place is the content that keeps working long after you close your laptop.

You just closed another YouTube video. Something about hacks to 10x your reach. And instead of feeling energized, you feel lost.

That is not a you problem. That is what happens when you keep looking out there for answers that are actually in here.

I recorded this video after a morning in my journal where I caught myself doing the exact same thing. Studying my analytics. Redoing thumbnails. Planning videos I thought would get clicks instead of videos that were actually on my heart. And I realized: I was performing. Not showing up. Performing.

So I made a list. One "choose this over that" for every letter of the alphabet. A little permission slip to come back to myself.

If you want to watch the full video, it is right up there. If you want the written version, keep reading. I broke it into three parts: trust yourself, build trust with others, and protect your peace.

Part One: Trust Yourself

The first thing I noticed when I went quiet and looked honestly at my marketing was that I had stopped trusting myself.

I was being impulsive instead of intuitive. Jumping to the next video, the next book, the next training, because maybe that one had the secret. Sound familiar?

Here are the four I shared from my list for this part:

Intuitive over impulsive. Before you buy a course or start a new strategy, pause. Ask yourself: is this a genuine yes, or is this fear telling me I need one more thing to be complete?

Knowing over keeping up. You know your people. You know what they need. You have probably been in their shoes or worked with a lot of people who are. Just because a certain strategy worked for someone else does not mean it will work for you, and it does not mean you are missing something.

Worthy over wanting. A coach I worked with once told me desperation has a smell to it. When you come from "I need a sale" instead of "I have something worth sharing," people feel that. Coming back to the value of what you offer changes everything about how you show up.

Your way over their way. Maybe you like to write. Maybe you like video. Maybe you want to do podcasts, join bundles, or network your way to referrals. There is no one right recipe. You add the spice.

The answers you are looking for? They are already in you. You just have to stop consuming other people's "proven answers" long enough to hear them.

Part Two: Build Trust With Others

People do not buy because you have a slick funnel. They buy because they trust you.

That is the whole job of marketing, really. Not clicks. Trust.

Connection over conversion. Have real conversations, messages that make your audience feel seen and understood. Those go so much further than optimizing for a click. When someone reads something you wrote and thinks, "she gets it," that is worth more than any like.

Experience over exaggeration. You do not have to oversell yourself. You have experience, and that is enough. I hear this from clients all the time: "I don't have enough testimonials yet" or "I haven't been doing this long enough." You know more than the person you are trying to help. Start there.

Joyful over jealous. I used to look at people who had been online for less time than me and had more success than I did, and feel a little sting of envy. Then something shifted. Now when I see someone in my space having a great launch or writing a book that takes off, I feel genuinely happy for them. They figured it out. Good for them. And here is the thing: if people are succeeding in your niche, that is proof there is a market for what you do. The pie keeps getting bigger. There is room.

Part Three: Protect Your Peace

This is the heart of the whole PEACE framework, and it is the reason I named my business what I did. Protecting your peace is not about doing less. It is about noticing where your marketing flows and where it grinds, and choosing the flow. Here are the ones

I shared from my list for this part:

Alignment over algorithms. This was number one on my list, and I almost did not put it in the video because it felt too vulnerable. I caught myself this week planning videos I thought would get clicks instead of videos that were on my heart. That is performing. And I do not want to perform. I want to show up. Those are two very different things.

Presence over performance. Being present with your audience, your clients, your family, yourself. A lot of the marketing I have done in the past felt performative, like I was doing it because I was supposed to, not because I had something real to say. When you feel that shift, it is a signal.

Quality over quantity. Fewer posts with more of you in them. That is the whole idea. I would rather publish one video a week that I actually mean than five that I cranked out to feed an algorithm that does not care about me.

Balance over burnout. If your marketing is costing you your evenings, your weekends, your peace, that is too high a price. There are other ways. I have blog posts I wrote in 2016 that are still sending me clients. One of them was responsible for about $22,000 in income last year, a year when I wasn't posting on social media at all. Content that lasts is a real thing. You can build it.

Your Permission Slip

You do not need one more tactic. You do not need a new strategy or a better system or a smarter funnel. What you need is permission to come back to yourself. That is what this list is. A way back in. I made a printable version with a worksheet so you can fill in your own "choose this over that," because yours will be different from mine.

Use it any time you catch yourself performing instead of showing up.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does "choose this over that" mean in marketing?
It is a personal practice of noticing when your marketing choices are driven by fear or algorithm-chasing, and deliberately choosing something more aligned with who you are and how you work best. It is not a formula. It is a check-in.

How do I know if I am performing instead of showing up in my marketing?
A good signal: you are making content decisions based on what you think will get clicks rather than what is genuinely on your heart to share. If you feel a little hollow after publishing something, that is worth paying attention to.

Do I really need to be on social media to get coaching clients?
No. There are coaches getting consistent clients from blog posts, YouTube videos, podcasts, referrals, and email, none of which require daily social media. The key is building content that lasts rather than content that disappears in 48 hours.

What is the PEACE blueprint?
PEACE is a five-part marketing framework: Protect Your Peace, Express Magnetically, Automate Simply, Connect Authentically, and Earn Sustainably. It is designed for coaches and service providers who want a marketing system that fits their life rather than one that consumes it.

What should I do if marketing consistently feels hard?
Start by asking where the friction is. Is it the platform? The format? The frequency? Most of the time, marketing feels hard because you are doing it in a way that does not fit how you actually work. Your way does not have to look like everyone else's.
