Web Page SEO can be one of the biggest challenges to a new business owner when you really want to get your website found.

If you haven’t already installed it, the WordPress SEO plugin by Yoast can really help you optimize your pages and post. (If you’re a web design client of mine you’ve probably already got it!) It’s a built in SEO checker for your WordPress blog. It will tell you where you’re missing keywords and what to do to improve your post.
The easy to remember tip I tell my clients and busy business owners:

Where to Put Your Keywords when Optimizing Your Blog Post for Search:
1: Have a domain name that contains your keyword or keyword phrase. (Not likely to happen and not super important!)
2: Have your keywords in the URL of your post and make sure that your URL doesn’t contain extra words and clutter. Just the keywords if possible.
–You can change this in WordPress easily by updating it in your permalink:
3: Keywords in your title tag and meta description. (You can set this in the WordPress SEO plugin.
–Be sure to check the SEO Snippet Preview to make sure your title and your meta aren’t too long!
4: Include in your post a H1, H2, H3 tag that includes your keyword.
5: Use your keyword in the first and last sentence of your blog post.
Other SEO Tips to Remember Regarding Keyword Placement When You’re Optimizing Your Post:
6: Keyword Density between 2% to 5%. Remember that for optimum blog SEO your content should flow and not be stuffed with keywords. Natural flowing text should always be your goal.
7: When you save your images save it with your keyword as the file name. Then when you upload it to your blog, title it and set the alt text to include your keyword as well.
8: Write a post that is at least 300 words long. The search engines love detailed high-quality content. Your readers will love it too!
9: Have a fast load time on your blog. (Shrinking your image sizes using a tool like TinyPng.com can help!)
10: Include a keyword that is hyperlinked to another post you’ve written on your blog. If you are including links to outside content that is not already published on your blog make sure that you include “rel=nofollow” in the html code of the link. It will look something like this: Web Design

11: The readability of your blog post is important. People on the web are looking for content they can skim first to see if it’s worth their time to read. These tips will help you improve your readability:
- Use short sentences; under 20 words per sentence if possible.
- Use short paragraphs.
- Avoid using a passive voice.
- Break up your text so it is easy to skim the content.
